The flickering neon sign of the all-night diner seemed to mock Elias as he trudged past. His shoulders were slumped, each step a monumental effort. He hadn’t slept properly in days, the incessant worries clinging to him like a second skin. He found the wallet nestled against a overflowing bin, its leather cracked and aged. It was heavy, a promise of something he couldn't quite fathom. He pulled it open, a thick wad of cash spilling onto the grimy pavement.
